Brussels blow to Microsoft upheld

BBC News Online
Wednesday, 22 December, 2004

A European court has turned down an appeal by Microsoft to delay hard-hitting
sanctions from the European Commission.

The US software giant went to the European Court of First Instance to try to
get the penalties for abuse of monopoly suspended.

Microsoft wanted to delay the opening up of aspects of its Windows software
system to rivals, and a record EU fine.

The court dismissed Microsoft's plea "in its entirety".

Yet Microsoft said after the judgement that it remained confident of coming to
an agreement with the Commission.

"We are not for names, nor men, nor titles of Government, nor are we for
this party nor against the other but we are for justice and mercy and
truth and peace and true freedom, that these may be exalted in our
nation, and that goodness, righteousness, meekness, temperance, peace
and unity with God, and with one another, that these things may abound."
