This is the sort of event where it would be great for
someone to present a case-study of their council running
Free Software, and making big savings (as a byproduct, on
top of all the other benefits of Free Software).

Is anyone on this list working for, or in touch with, such
a council? This type of seminar is run pretty regularly.

++E-Government Bulletin February Seminar:
- E-Government and the Gershon Efficiency Review
- Thursday 24 February 2005
- CBI Conference Centre, Centre Point, London
http://www.electronic-government.com/efficiency/ .

Sir Peter Gershon's review of public sector efficiency requires public
bodies to cut 2.5 per
cent a year out of their budgets right up to 2008, and the use of new
technologies will be
central to hitting these tough targets. E-procurement; online payment; open
source software;
intranets; call-centres and back-office systems will all be among options
which are suddenly
no longer a luxury for a few innovators, but part of mainstream public
service management.

Come along to our seminar to swap tips and hear advice from the experts on
how to meet
your budget obligations and even achieve service improvements in the
process. The event is
aimed at chief executives, IT officers, procurement officers, e-champions,
finance officers,
supplier managers and anyone else involved in e-government projects.
Speakers include
representatives from 4ps, Oxford City Council, the Office of the Deputy
Prime Minister, the
Society of IT Management (Socitm) and London Connects.

Places cost 295 pounds plus VAT for public sector and 395 plus VAT for
private sector
delegates. Additional delegates booking at the same time receive a 100 pound
discount. And
as a fantastic added benefit for every delegate, included in the price of
attendance is a free
copy of E-Government Outlook 2004-05, E-Government Bulletin's superb
150-page
reference book, worth more than 100 pounds. The book is the most
comprehensive overview
of the state of play in UK e-government and the outlook for policy and
pioneering
developments over the months to come.
