I guess I can start doing some work with Python. I have used Python for server side CGI programming for my class projects. In the mean time I will try and start reading some stuff about bug tracking, I am assuming it something like QA testing.

Ouch. Gnash is full of pointers :)
Maybe you could start learning some ActionScript, which is pretty
similar to _javascript_ (both implement ECMAScript), and help with
testcases. Or you could learn python and help with setting up
a buildbot. Hard to say, really.

What about starting by scanning the bug tracker and verify
reproducibility of the reported bugs and help reducing the
test sets ?
