Oh, my script had a bug that did some of the sums wrong; here's a corrected
list, with everything but the total size (sans BSS) removed, and commas
inserted to make it easier to read:

Obviously the sizes here are pretty vague, and not always comparable, but
hopefully give a rough idea of the bloat-factor of each scheme.  I presume
mit-scheme's rather absurd size is due to the way its image is constructed --
or does it have gobs of stuff like editors etc built in?

Elk seems to be the closest thing, and indeed the debian package desc says:

   Elk is an implementation of the Scheme programming language, designed
   specifically as an embeddable, reusable extension language subsystem for
   applications written in C or C++.

Does anyone have any experience with it?
