This is /mainly/ a UI problem. fai has some sort of branch-the-local-dir
command, I'm sure. bazaar can do 'branch $new-version' in a checked out
tree, which will tag, apply-delta, set-tree version and generally track
the details for you.

Sigh. pure-merge. Been there, done that, it works fine.
