I understand and don't entirely disagree with your point about the 
distinction between namespace-based revision retraction and outright
history obliteration.

I agree that both have their places.

Timestamps are not a sane approach to history obliteration.

Record keeping about what has been mirrored or `get'-ed or put
into a revision library is a sane approach to history obliteration,
although it is suitable for *some* kinds of archive and not others.

That same record keeping has many other uses as well.

If you persue the goal of history-obliteration in the direction of
beefed up (but optional) record keeping, you are likely to get somewhere.
Otherwise, you will have to start or work with some branch that is
aimed squarely at dead-ending itself.
