G_8 clef symbols & dvips

I am starting to become happy with the 1.3 releases,
however I still have the following two issues.

In G_8 clef the 8 is not visible in xdvi and is just visible on hard
copy as being in the middle for the treble clef symbol. I think this
affects both the _8 and ^8 clef symbols. I believe the problem is in
the engraver.ly file with the definition of OctavateEight, where
Y-offset-callbacks should be defined.  As I do not understand after a
quick look what the proper definition is, I am unable to fix it.

Also when I run dvips since 1.3.71 I get the following messages.
I upgraded my tetex packages to the redhat 1.0.6-11 but still get the
messages.
