The easiest fix is probably to edit ly2dvi.py and replace
every 'stderr' with 'stdout'.

I think you do get a log file when you use the flag -k to ly2dvi,
the problem is (if I recall correctly) that it's only produced
when there are no errors, which makes it more or less useless.
