Hi all,

as Scott I see a strong demand for OpenMP-support in gcc, especially in
the rising of mutli-core-cpus in the near future.

I would like to participate in this project and support you to the best of
my skills.

I am sorry that my first post on this list is a dissenting opinion. I
already have done this several times for different projects, and in my
experience this is a nightmare.

You have to provide excessive project documentation, business plan et al.
Best chance to get fundings if you hire a consultant which is specialised
in that matter - last time we applied for fundings it took us 6 months and
cost approx. 150.000,-- euro.

Maybe this is easier if you are an open source project (thanks to the
hype), have proper academic support - but a little bit I doupt it.

On the other hand, if there is substantial progress in this project, there
may come support from companies like Apple. They have no Intel C-Compiler
for their platform so there is a natural demand for them to have an
openmp-capable compiler on their side - see there xserve, they want to
enter the high performance computing market.

Aside of this, I will read the papers you already have, follow this
mailinglist and will look for an opportunity to step in and assist you.

Best regards,
Thomas
