In the crrent draft this is a late, optional step.  New text:

    Note that if you dop this you may lose the ability to upgrade from
    jessie to the upcoming stetch release, and might need to rebuild your
    image from scratch as a result.

I am not clear how installing anything from backports could fix systemd
problems.  Explain, please?
