The state of the documentation is a huge step backwards as compared to
the documentation of 2.5.4a :(  Just run

in 2.5.22
texi2dvi -b -p flex.texi

in 2.5.4a
texi2dvi -b -p MISC/texinfo/flex.texi

and compares the results :(


I don't know what was the basic for the documentation of 2.5.22, but
it would certainly be extremely useful to back port these
modifications into what was 2.5.4a's documentation.  I recall the
efforts that were made to create 2.5.4a's documentation, it would be a
pity to duplicate this :(
