Thanks. Yes, they were the variables I was looking for. However, this
still gives me the default

attribution line. What I would like is something like the attribution
line I use now, in cases where sc-nested-citation-p is t. (The defaults
are fine otherwise.)

Perhaps I need to create another reference header rewrite function and
add it to sc-rewrite-header-list, changing the sc-preferred-header-style
to point to this function in the list. But I'm not entirely clear on how
to do this. Or is there a better way?

I used to use SuperCite all the time, back when I was using VM (around
1993-95 I think.) It's usage was quite common back then, as I recall.
However, I agree. Where the two citing styles are mixed, the flow of
conversation is often difficult to follow.
