I managed to get it work:

perl-event 0.86-2mdk from mandrake-devel/contrib

Net::Z3950 source 
http://search.cpan.org/CPAN/authors/id/M/MI/MIRK/Net-Z3950-0.31.tar.gz

after uncompressing I edited Net-Z3950-0.31/yazwrap/Makefile.PL file:

I changed line
'CCFLAGS'   => $defaultCCFLAGS . ' -Wall',
to
'CCFLAGS'   => $defaultCCFLAGS . ' -Wall -D_GNU_SOURCE',

then back to Net-Z3950-0.31 directory and 

perl Makefile.PL
make
make test
make install

It worked for me. No idea why.
