I am not sure if this is just a GNOME issue or if my computer's graphics (GMA 945) is just too slow. Whenever I plug into a display via VGA (dual display) GNOME becomes very slow. Lowering the resolution to 1024x768 (with mirror display) on both displays seems to fix the issue. Could this be because my display (1400x1050) does not scale well to higher resolutions like those with 16:9 and 16:10 aspect ratios?

Does anyone else experience slow downs when using external displays? Maybe the GM4500HD in the newer thinkpads can handle this better.

As a side note, probably not possible, but has anyone every researched using digital video ports from thinkpad docks without the dock. It seems like a rather heavy accessory just to enable DVI/Display port on X60/T60/X200/T400. If only we could some how leverage the bottom connector on these thinkpads for a single display output. I suppose T500 might be the only way to avoid carrying around a docking station.

Thanks in advance for any input.
