1.6 branch considered frozen.

Hi there,

this is a short note just to let you all know that I will not engage
in any further `front-ports' from 1.6 to 1.7; 1.6 is closed except for
serious bugfixes, and finishing up of pending work (the TeX work by
Werner comes to mind). All development, including changes to
documentation will be done on the 1.7 branch.

My plan is to have a shorter release cycle for 1.8. I think that the
improvements in 1.7 of the input syntax should not be kept locked up
in development releases too long, they're much too good :)
