Hi folks,

[it's a long email, sorry]

As you know I started a new "branch" in the debian package. It's based
on the previous work by Fok but I deleted the unnecessary stuff (like
specific code for lily 1.3 and 1.7 for example) and made it
"independent" of the stable one, i.e., you can have both in your
system, like python. I think that this is the best way to pack
lilypond. It seems to be working on my system. I'm waiting for more
user feedback and, as soon as I get a change, I'll install it in a
pristine system.

About the "official debian developer" (ODD) stuff:

They actually suggest one to work with debian developers *before*
applying for ODD. One have to find a "sponsor" (an ODD) to help the
guy and upload the package. From the "Unofficial debian-mentors FAQ"
(http://people.debian.org/~mpalmer/debian-mentors_FAQ.html):

-------------------------------------------------------
What's the process of becoming a Debian Developer?

1 Package stuff;

2 Find a DD who checks and uploads it for you, this is called
"sponsoring" an upload. Your name is still in the Maintainer: field of
the package, so you are still responsible for keeping it in good
order.

3 Keep the package in shape, fix bugs, make new uploads with your
sponsor.

4 Decide whether you want to become a DD and do more work for
Debian. If not, just continue with (3).

5 So you want to become a DD. ;-) First thing you need is a DD who
testifies for you, i.e. basically has the opinion that you are doing
good work and would like you to become a DD. This is called
"advocate". As he has to have some idea _what_ you did it is not
sensible to just ask on debian-mentors for an advocate. It has to be
somebody who has worked together with you, the DD who previously acted
as your sponsor is a natural choice. Once you have an advocate you can
start the NM-process.
-------------------------------------------------------

So, I'm thinking in polishing* and testing the 2.3 package a little
more (i.e., item 1) and them request a sponsor to upload the package
to me. (item 2).

*I still don't have pictures in my info files, but I don't know if the
problem is in my system, emacs, texinfo, lilypond, or debian. I have
to dig further. This is the major thing missing in my package.

Any comments and suggestion are more-than-welcome.

Pedro
