I'm sorry for such things.  The only excuse I could device for
such things is that we decided to use Python for everything,
as it has the potential of being so much better readable than
other scripting languages...and when you use a language much
you get more familiar with shorthands...oh, and of course,
Han-Wen and I were a bit short on time, now and then :-)

Could we move it out of toplevel some day, though?
