I have no idea what "monotonic", "needed", "unneeded", and
"Expected" mean in this context, but the following messages are
certainly amusing.  :)
I assume that "needed" and "unneeded" aren't actually
contradictions... or maybe they are, and that's why the internal
error is printed.
