Neither the TeXlive2013 CD (64 bit) nor the Ubuntu 13.10alpha (32bit)
binary work for me. I'll try TeXlive2012 (32bit) next.

If you are wondering about my strange mixtures: I am running a 64bit
kernel generally with a 32bit userland. That let's me test the
occasional 64bit binary without upgrading the whole system.

TeXlive2013 decided to install 64bit binaries after looking at the
kernel architecture and I was too lazy to change that afterwards.
