It emphasizes the visual aspect.  For example, if a key signature is
replaced by text, you could write

\behold "the lamb of God" Staff.KeySignature

As to "non-native English speaker": I was born in Walnut Creek, Cal.
I have to admit that speech was not one of my strong suits then.
