4.4.3. It's the version that came with lilydev 1.1

I'm surprised it did not blow up around your ears earlier. That sounds
about as old as we had in GUB before we were forced to upgrade in
consequence of some template usage patterns last fall. What's the
current version of Lilydev?

Looks like it's 3.0: IIRC James created it and so would be best placed
to say what the gcc version is. I'm quite happy to upgrade my gcc
providing it's not impossible to work out how to do it. Don't really
want to trash my current development environment to upgrade to a later
lilydev.

Well, it would be good if you managed to move GCC up: I don't think it
makes sense trying to accommodate GCC 4.4.3 any more as it is totally a
stab in the dark for most developers to guess what may or may not
compile on that version for what reason.

My copy of LilyDev 3.0 is at gcc 4.7.2. My build on master just succeeded.

My master is currently at e52c5d72fc45e123c8574803ba52871e6fe8a596

I've managed to work out how to upgrade Ubuntu 10.04 to gcc 4.8.1 with the help of StackOverflow, and can now compile again.
