Works fine here  (Debian sid also)  *but* I do have random problems with 
gv giving similar results with any staff-size.  I can *always* fix this 
by restarting gv.  xdvi doesn't work for me at all.

convert-ly[-snapshot] only updates the version to the last necessary 
change level.  Mine are all currently marked 2.3.23.
