Oh wow, I feel dumb. This is something completely different. There actually isn't any overlap. The text "mme?" is centered under the notehead, as it should be, but because it's so long a syllable, I'm guessing he wants the note moved to the right, so that the text could not be considered to be part of the preceding note. In that case, I would suggest, \once \override LyricText #'self-alignment-X = #-1. The text won't be centered under the notehead, but padding a notehead is beyond my ability. And it's what I would do if it bothered me.
