Then you still need one voice that changes staves, because a VoiceFollower is definitely the right thing to use, and easiest as well. Maybe try an extra voice with \hideNotes? Also, please keep communication on-list (using Reply All) always. Others may be interested in the solution, or able to help out more competently than I.
