Ted is quite right to point out that the argument for including
what I call postprocessing functions into the document formatter
is strengthened when there are multiple output formats.  For
example, I know of no program which selects page ranges from a
Lout-generated plain text output file (although using -P to
generate line-feed characters between pages gives a firm hook
to hang such a postprocessor onto).
