I'm taking it that you don't want arguments against your actions.
the other definition of argument as a well-reasoned answer I will state.
you need to think about 2 or 4 because otherwise the year 2000 problem will
bite you. It is a lot easier to know that 11221997 is less than 11222003
than to know 112297 is less than 112203.

I can see your concern, of course, what changes you make to your own
copy of lynx is your business. I think you should publish your changes
as a diff to make it easier for the developers to integrate.
