Since it is not my software I may not do anything. I just felt like 
trying it yesterday so I did it. No need to accept this or answer my 
questions. :-) I was just curious. I'm happy that I could code a bit 
yesterday. :-)

I don't want it to silently replace files. I want it to tell that it 
replaces files. And revert is not the same. If I do revert I lose all my 
changes. I just wanted a easy way to fix missing files, without losing 
any changes. It actually doesn't need to be update, but in the first 
place I found it somehow the right place to do it.

Maybe reverting single files is better, but not as comfortable. And an 
enormous task if you accidently deleted a hole directory tree :-)

It's nerving when monotone just dies saying a file disappeared. But I 
think you're right mixing different funtionality in update is a bad 
idea. Maybe add fixmissing command which only and exactly does replacing 
missing files?
