OK, I got some independent testing results. A long-time iTerm user and a never-used-before, fresh install. Both reported the correct behavior without knowing what was expected. I ran some regression tests with Mac Terminal.app and Ubuntu's default terminal, also no issues.

I think it is ready to go.

"Surprised" is a small word.  "Horrified" comes closer to what
