Follow-up Comment #18:

I checked in a cset for part #2, using del rather than rm to remove files on
Windows platforms (http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/f1270e5a3117).

Unfortunately, I had no luck with John's build patch for ghostscript 9.10. 
MXE correctly builds in version 9.10.  I can check inside Octave with


system ("gs.exe --version")


However the output is not right.  I have a different version of ghostscript
9.10 that I downloaded directly from downloads.ghostscript.com.  When I copy
over gs.exe from that distribution into the bin directory of Octave it works. 
Maybe we should just try and move directly to version 9.15 in MXE.
