Follow-up Comment #36, bug #48172 (project octave):
So after a few recompile attempts.
1. commenting out and/or removing the ctrl-L lines did not fix the issue in
fedora
2. copying the old texinfo.tex from a checkout before that commit and using it
on the current sources _does_ work.
3. using the textinfo.tex from the current head of http://hg.octave.org/gnulib
does not work (although I have not tried it with the ^L removed)
