Follow-up Comment #20, bug #53459 (project octave): @Philip: (file #43884, file #43885) work so far, at least no error messages. I did create another testcase <<Testcase3.xlsx>> which is a crowded Excel file with lot of special characters and lots of formulas etc. I figured out that sheet no. 4 (4657H6B54) was not extracted in txtarr and nummarr accordingly. Maybe the other sheets fail too. To be investigated. Maybe, in general, the code of the io package is not able to handle such crowded sheets yet for correct import.
