I would not know much about that.  By the time
it loads I have usually gone on to something else,
or fallen asleep.  An alias: alias matlab  matlab -nodesktop
works best for me.  Even this load time is much longer
than loading the current Octave GUI.

More important, I am sure you have read what Kahan thinks
of Matlab's handling of 754.
