I don't know that it's always this way, but the RH packages I've tried seem to
run perfectly well, here. Mdk wasn't on the grid, yet, for .2.90 when I
fetched, so I grabbed the latest version RH package, and installed it with no
trouble at all. I've done that b4, as well. The only problems I've had are
things like spell checking, which doesn't always work right on Mdk, either
(as you and I both know <g>). I particularly like the fact that in contrast
to so many places, here, i386 isn't the only arch target available,
RPM-packed for RH. I'd be a bit more inclined to do RH, if it wasn't so i386
centric. Even Mdk's standard i586 arch target is a bit behind, although I
understand the reasons for that. i386 packages for modern X-mode
environments like Gnome and KDE, in particular, don't really make a lot of
sense to me, although I can understand why one might still be targeting a lot
of console mode packages at the 386.

If I may ask, what are you thinking about bailing to, and why. Mdk has been
my first distrib, and I've thought about switching to Debian, in particular,
due to its mantainability and the fact that so many Linux developers use it
as their platform. Thus, any thoughts on the subject, particularly from
another Mdk user thinking about switching, would be useful.

... I'm still wondering if I'll be able to afford an Athlon-64, in the first
generation. It'd be nice, but I don't know what the price target is on it,
and whether it matches MY reasonable price target. <g> I suppose my future
distrib plans could be affected by that. I know Mdk has announced plans for
it, but am not sure about details, or any other distribs.
