I support your request.  The feature was removed somewhere between
0.11.x and 0.12.1.  It's requested on this forum now and then, and
someone has already filed it in Bugzilla:

BTW, what do you think about operations on subthreads:
- Mark subthread read/unread (possible today with D M)
- Watch subthread (currently impossible)
- Ignore subthread (currently impossible)
