When I run Pan, and then close it, this is the resulting std_err output:

address@hidden .pan2]$ pan

(pan:5333): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: invalid uninstantiatable type `<invalid>'
in cast to `GtkPaned'

(pan:5333): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_paned_get_position: assertion `GTK_IS_PANED
(paned)' failed

(pan:5333): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: invalid unclassed pointer in cast to
`GtkPaned'

(pan:5333): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_paned_get_position: assertion `GTK_IS_PANED
(paned)' failed

(pan:5333): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: invalid uninstantiatable type `(null)' in
cast to `GtkTreeView'

(pan:5333): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_tree_view_get_columns: assertion
`GTK_IS_TREE_VIEW (tree_view)' failed

Does that give you a clue Charles?
