No, the x does not mean search access, it means execute. Root has read/write/execute acdcess, root's group (and the rest of the world) have read/execute, but not write access. HTH, HAND.

No, that was a directory (as shown by the initial 'd'). For a directory, the 'x' means search access (there is no such thing as executing a directory). For an ordinary file, it would mean execute access.
