FYI, a proper solution will have to support the official STARTTLS method
of securing NNTP. I have a partial version on my nntp branch. I
haven't gotten the tls stuff implemented yet but most of the
infrastructure is there. It will require implementing the line buffer
on pans side.
That would be
g_io_ch (unbuffered) -> *tls -> socket (line buffering).
