Again, thanks for your help.

I compiled the tun/tap module (got the source from
http://vtun.sourceforge.net/tun/) and followed all the
instructions in the README (./configure, make install,
modprobe tun, added 'alias char-major-10-200 tun' to
/etc/modules.conf), so I feel the module *should* be loaded,
but maybe it's not, maybe I'm doing something wrong? I'm
not exactly a newbie, but I don't have much systematic
knowledge either. So no, I'm not sure tun is working, but
I'm not sure how to figure out what is wrong.

I run Mandrake 8.2 on a Dell Inspiron 8100. My current
kernel is a custom kernel from (Mandrake-customized) 2.4.18
source.

Hi Laura & Richard,

Sorry for the delay Laura, I wasn't aware you sent a reply
because of the mail problem on Savannah...
If you get a "Fatal Error, exiting..." message without other
clues it really mean there is something wrong with the tun
driver (module not loaded, device /dev/net/tun not present,
bad access permission on this file, etc... ?). If you are
really sure tun is working on your system (ex many VPN
software use tun), let me know (and precise system & kernel
version you use)...

Now for DSL, there is something else to do. You need first
to configure a PPPoE software (RP-PPPoE is an easy to use one).
Configure it to use login "address@hidden" and password
"l0app" (L zero). DNS should be set by this software, if not
use one of those: 195.93.32.134,
195.93.33.134, 195.93.34.134, 195.93.48.134 or 195.93.50.134
(This is set putting a line "nameserver <dns_ip>" in your
/etc/resolv.conf file)
Next you have to configure pengfork to use a TCP/IP
connection with a config file like this:
access_method = tcpip
use_screen_name = 1
screen_name1 = <Your_screen_name_1>
password1 = <Your_password_1>
debug_level = 0
ip-up_script = /etc/pengfork/ip-up

I know this work in Germany but it should work in others
country too.
Let me know if you're succesful or not...
