While I'm not actually using RedHat on the same computer as I compile pingus I 
use GCC 3.2 which is also used in RedHat 8.0. (I've got it installed on my 
second computer.)
You could post your erorrs, but....

... how can you be sure there are errors with the actual CVS if you can't 
check it out?
BTW the error doesn't indicate any permanent problem, I'd suggest you try 
again another time.
