Hmm... It's an intresting idea...
BTW, it would be more suitable to analize only exit code.
Am I undestand rightly that all rdiff-backup options, like "--compare-*", differ between itselfs by the methods that they use to compare files' content only?

Again, then you need to use --compare-full.  If it says

metadata changed, data the same: $filename

then you just ignore that line (you could easily do this with grep or sed)

If it says:

metadata changed, data changed: $filename

then that's what you're interested in.
