This is *exactly* why it's ambiguous: it could be mm/dd or
dd/mm. Admittedly, it's a US site, so it should be assumed
to be mm/dd, but it could still easily be interpreted either
way.

I thought you implied that dd/mm was used instead of mm/dd.
Adding the ccyy would take too much space I think. I don't
see the current format as ambiguous, although I understand
it *could* be ambiguous if only a few projects registered
themselves over a long period.
