Hi,

We can perfectly set up an account for you, according to Lisa
proposal, but:
        - "Savannah account" usually means an account on the savannah
system, a web interface (see http://savannah.gnu.org).
This is automated, you only require a valid email address.
        - As savannah.gnu.org is a production server, we would like
to only create shell accounts there when it's for an identified
        purpose.
And the server shouldn't at all be used for another purpose
than managing a project on the server. If you need an account
to write software (even the project managed by savannah), to
read mails, you should ask to address@hidden The load on
        the server is already high.
        - Normally, using Savannah service do not at all require
a shell account. If not, it's a bug.

That said, I think that you should first create a "savannah account"
(web interface). Then you should begin working using this interface,
getting familiar with it. If there are things you have to do that
cannot be done with the prefered methods (cvs via ssh, scp, rsync via
ssh), tell us what you want to do precisely and we will create such an
account. Note that working with a shell account on the server is not
easier.

It can sound a little bit paranoid but it saves lot of our time to
proceed this way. For instance, by reading Lisa mail, I understand
that you will maybe use CVS. While for some task, a shell account may
be useful with CVS, nobody should work with a shell account on CVS
repositories without a good knowledge of CVS.
Most of the time, CVS commands are enough.
Also, if we had to create manually an account for each users, it would
take hours.
And finally, it's easier for us to have a limited number of person
that have a shell account - we can easily identify malicious
logins. More users with shell account we have, less secure is the
server.

Regards,
