Follow-up Comment #5, task #7845 (project administration):

Hi Franco,

no problem for the delay. Most of us have tight schedules :).

I understand the "GNU/Linux" issue pretty well (I think). I followed the
growing of the "open source" movement over the years and I strongly feel a
member of the free software community which has always been clear about its
goals: promote freedom and sharing. Some people have chosen to emphasize the
openness of their software to promote them to the business world. They don't
especially care about freedom and sharing. They needed some "sexy" stuff to,
in a way, "think different," be "cool" and attractive to business people. So
they picked up the openness of source code. And, when building complex systems
based on GNU which was already available and "open source," they chose to
"forget" about the freedom aspect of their system and simply dropped the "GNU"
part of it which didn't fit with their goals.
That's not what I do with my (small) software. I feel close to the GNU
community. I just have a small disagreement on the use of a license, for some
political motives. That's why I release everything I do in the public domain.
(To state it shortly: how can one feel free when using a system, the
justice/police, to "protect" him/her? I mean, the justice/police *forces* you
to respect the rules of the society, there is no freedom in there. When you
use a license to "protect" your work you end up depending on the
justice/police to protect you. But OK, this is off-topic. And the GPL is a
good thing *practically speaking* since so many people use it to release some
software. Maybe these people would not release anything without the GPL.)

Anyway the file IDEAS has already been modified so everything is OK on my
side I guess.

Take care,
Cedric.
