That sounds like a valid plan. Please be sure to submit this as a
separate patch from the usb device patch.

Also, You might want to check the list archives. Hermann Kraus
submitted a patch extending the timer support. There's also a timer
patch sitting in the patch manager on savannah. But those patches are
not compatible.
