        To Marcus and all Linux box users:

        Marcus proposition (see below) solves the 'error: TkExtra (instance)'.

        Two minor notes: 

. the correct address of this 'rescue distribution' is
ftp://ftp2.santafe.edu/pub/swarm/swarm-1.0.5-i586-pc-linux-gnulibc1-tcl7.4-t
k4.0-blt2.1-libc5.2.18.tar.gz

. the BLT_LIBRARY environment variable must now point to
  $SWARMHOME/lib/blt2.1
