Sven,

No offense intended, my friend! Gecko's use of randoms for Gaussian
deviates (I love that term ;) far predates any availability in Swarm. Now
I'm porting from last-beta Swarm to 1.1 on WinNT. There is no binary
release of Swarm 1.1 or 1.05 available on HPUX these days. Ideally, in
this port, one would like to:

        1. Verify *identical* experimental results on a batch job.
        2. Then polish the gui gotchas.
        3. Then go forward with housecleaning like random noveau.

In other words, the lrand48 inavailability really sucks, for I cannot
verify equivalence by match-exactly.

Since I assume the random library will work when I get around to altering
code all over Gecko to include it, that's last step. In the meantime,
I'm wallpapering over the problem with rand() and srand() and doing the
infrastructure port. Make sense?

Cheers,
        Ginger
