Ginger,

I hate to ask, but is there some specific reason (beyond "if it ain't
broke, don't fix it") that you are not using the random generators that
come with Swarm? If there's something that the current objects do, or don't
do, that you are not happy with, please let me know so I can consider it
for the next revision of Random. 

I would think that several of the newer generators, including the default
MT19937, now have vastly better statistical properties than ?rand48. [If
they were correctly implemented, of course ;-) ]
