One of our users asked about messages to nil and what
a pain it is that they don't generate a warning.
It would sure be nice if there was a flag in gcc that could
tell it to compile things (or link to a particular runtime lib) so that
messages to nil would generate warnings.
Is such a thing possible with gcc?
The user thought he had read somewhere that there was an easy
patch to something that would make messages to nil generate warnings.
Anyone know anything about that?
thanks!

ps What was the original reason for messages to nil
being ok and not generating any warning?
It does seem to trip programmers up, allowing for somewhat
difficult to find bugs.
