I don't recall anyone ever answering you.... at least not publicly.
If someone has, then please ignore me. [grin]

I think the proper question is, "What went wrong in the compile of
Swarm?"

I've had some problems with various libraries being left out of
the compile (usually due to a failed compilation attempt during
the make process). The primary problem so far has been in using
the Cygnus device aliasing. If you have Swarm on a different drive
from Cygnus, and even if you try aliasing something like
"/usr" to the top of the drive you have Swarm on, trying to use
such aliases in the Makefile.conf doesn't seem to work. (At least
I haven't spent enough time playing with it to find out exactly
where it doesn't work.)

So, I'd suggest that the compilation of defobj is searching for
some include file that it cannot find because it can't navigate
the directory/partition tree. Try setting the paths in Makefile.conf
using the "c:/" and "d:/" notation instead of the mounted aliases
(like "/" or "/usr") and instead of the network notation "//c/" or
"//d/".

That's made mine work quite consistently. I do still have some problems
with setting the SWARMHOME variable. But, I use relative paths for
that and manage just fine.
