New wine in old bottles

And here is part two of the query: trying to install Swarm 1.1, still under
Redhat 4.2 (gcc 2.7.2, libc1 etc.) and using blt-2.3 and tclobjc-1.3.

[Installing under RedHat 5.0 comes next, and there I hope Paul's notes will
show the way!]

After setting all the relevant definitions in Makefile.conf, I get error
messages for some modules that symbols like MAX_INT are undefined; these
symbols are defined in <limits.h> which on this system resides in
/usr/include. That directory should be in the standard search path!

Also note that (as per my other thread) swarm-1.0.3 compiles fine on the
same system, so it would seem to have something to do with the makefile(s)
for swarm 1.1.

Not that I've added myself!

>Don't fiddle with /etc/ld.so.conf unless you know what you are doing.

Sage advice, except I'd never have learned Linux if I didn't occasionally
forge ahead where angels fear to tread ...

Grateful for any help,
Sven
